Psalm 123 Prayer for Relief from Contempt
1 Unto You I lift up my eyes,
O You who dwell in the heavens.
2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters,
As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,
So our eyes look to the Lord our God,
Until He has mercy on us.
3 Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us!
For we are exceedingly filled with contempt.
4 Our soul is exceedingly filled
With the scorn of those who are at ease,
With the contempt of the proud.
Our life with God is a journey of transformation - like the children of Israel wandering 40 years in the desert to get Egypt out of them after He brought them out of Egypt with a mighty hand of deliverance. As we are "going up higher" in the LORD, we shedding our old ways of thinking and acting. We do not leave Egypt and automatically become perfect, our perfection by the Holy Spirit comes as we continue to walk with the Lord Our God as His Messiah. Our Savior becomes the "perfecter and finisher" of our faith.
Even as we walk on with the LORD over the years, we continue to experience the scorn and contempt of others - some outside the faith, some inside. Our souls can become "exceedingly filled" with the scorn and contempt of others. Many are the wounds and hurt as we walk along our way going up higher in Him. This is part of the "fellowship of His sufferings" that the apostle Paul talked about. None of us who embark on the journey to grow into the likeness of Yeshua/Jesus will get there without knowing such disheartening situations. But our souls are in the hands of our Father. We look to Him "until He has mercy on us." Our patience in the wait is also part of our spiritual journey of transformation.
