Arrows 6 6 2025 Tending the Fig Tree

Whoever tends the fig tree shall eat its fruit
Proverbs 27:18
by Donna Diorio

Advance Notice: Spiritual Parallels abound

As I write this on Tuesday morning with my coffee, I am eating a giant fig from my fig tree. For the first time since I planted it in 1998, it has finally produced fruit, and it is fruit in abundance! Most years it produced absolutely no fruit whatsoever.
Several times I concluded it was not planted in the right place to get the sun it needed. Even when we left the apartment and moved into this house in 2003 I had to replant it at least three times trying to find the place it would thrive.
It has been in the same location now for over a decade, a perfect spot but it continued not to produce fruit that could be eaten. Twice the bitter winter has leveled it to the ground, but it grew back stronger, and even produced 3 or 4 figs we could eat. Every year my fig tree was a spiritual sign to me and not a good one. I was going nowhere fast for all my hard work and hardship doing my Israel prayer elists. The trickle of fruitfulness seemed to mock me in that barren fig tree, but I could not quit knowing the promises of God toward the abundant spiritual restoration of Israel. What I saw in that fig tree was not unlike the things I’ve heard from Israeli ministries at times. The promises of God inspire great hope of what He is doing among us, but the day to day reality is depressing if we let feelings rule us. We are waiting for something BIG. We know it is out there, it is coming, but here we are with not a lot to show for it.
Oftentimes that fig tree in my backyard has felt something like a prophetic slap to me! Many times after another disappointing season tending that fig tree, I thought about just giving up, but I couldn't. I couldn’t give up on the fig tree in my back yard just like I couldn’t give up on advocating for the body of believers in Israel. The fig tree in the Bible is a prophetic symbol of Israel, and my backyard fig tree symbolized my sense of not accomplishing nearly as much as I desired to in the Weekly Summary and Arrows from Zion.
Always there has been so much resistance and challenges, and seeing a lack of breakthrough and growth that I have always expected from it. From time to time I have read the same sense from Israeli ministries, wondering when does the breakthrough begin in earnest? Where is the abundant fruit? We have great expectations in our hearts from all of God’s promises in His Word, yet there is little fruit on the fig tree – certainly not as we expect the harvest to produce.
Today I read that the age of a fig tree is a determining factor if it is not producing fruit. In the past I assumed that meant the fig tree can get too old. Old age is not issue! The age factor is about a fig tree maturing enough to produce seeds.
The fig tree expert I was reading wrote that the trees  “need to reach a certain maturity before they can produce offspring. Fruit is how a fig tree creates seeds. If the fig tree is not old enough to produce seeds, it will also not produce fruit. Typically, a fig tree will not fruit until it reaches two years old, but it can take some trees as long as six years to reach the right maturity. There is nothing you can do to speed up the rate a tree matures at. Time and patience are the only fixes for this."
A minister I know teaches that the timing of Jesus return to earth is not based on based on numbers  of how many have become Christians in the nations. He’s referring to interpretations of when “times of the gentiles be fulfilled.”
It’s rather about the maturing of Christians to the point of “one new man” with Jewish believers – and this will be most obvious in alignment with Israeli Jewish believers in Yeshua. It is not because Israeli believers in Yeshua are more special than those in the nations, but it is because of all the promises of God in scripture that God is gathering Jews from the nations back to Israel for the purpose of spiritual restoration. The physical restoration had to come first – the State of Israel, now even the anti-Semitism that is erupting all over the world has become the driving force for Jews to return to their land of Promise from God.
It takes Christian fruit of maturity to produce the seed for Israeli ministries to sow/plant among their people so “all Israel shall be saved.” It takes the fruit of maturity to produce seed for the Israeli Ministries to bear more fruit.
In the spiritual maturity of Christians in the nations toward the spiritual the fig tree of Israeli believers, helping them so they can plant the seed of the Gospel more and more in Israel, this is the maturity of unity that is going to produce fruit in Israel! God is not going to initiate the final harvest until we have reached the peak maturity He is looking for.
Now my fig tree is 27 years old! Far beyond what the expert said it should take to produce fruit. But it never did. If it had not become a spiritual sign to me, I would have discarded it years ago and bought a new fig tree. But it was and is spiritual to me. To me it represents my own ministry to the church as I am “tending the fig tree” of Israel.
One of the scriptures I took hold of when in 2005 I started Arrows from Zion from the Weekly Summary of Prayer Requests from Israeli Ministries, is Proverbs 27:18 -
"Whoever keeps the fig tree will eat its fruit;  So he who waits on his Master will be honored."
I never knew it before today, but Hebrew word in “Whoever
nāṣar (keeps) the fig tree” is 90% the exact same definition as “So he that šāmar (waits) on His Master.”  Both mean “to watch, guard, keep, preserve ….watchmen” but added to šāmar (waits) on His Master are to “heed” and “observe.”
The first thing that came to my mind discovering this is that God considers it to be the same thing those that watch over the fig tree (Israel) by being a watchman guarding over it, to keep and preserve it, God considers that being a loyalty to Himself. If one watches his Master, heeding and observing his Master, he will also do the same for Israel.  Maybe you think that is taking it too far, exalting Israel too much, but exalting Israel is not the point. The point is for each of us to be in an active solidarity with God’s desires, God’s plans and whom God loves.
Year after year my tree and my ministry reflected little fruit. How could any take me seriously when there was so much struggle and so little visible fruit? This year all that has changed! My fig tree in the first season of annual harvest times is loaded down with giant luscious figs! Every branch of the tree is loaded down with figs.
I see that not only as a prophetic sign of my own ministry finally bearing fruit, ultimately I see it as the promise of God to the spiritual restoration of Israelis beginning to produce abundant fruit the Israeli ministries will begin to reap.
That is exciting to me! The prophetic sign that has tested me for years- would I give up and turn away? – is now is urging me forward in new excitement, new hope and a new burst of trust that God is bringing to pass His good will for Israel and for me
. Our destinies are intertwined in Yeshua.
I lift my eyes unto the LORD, and as that fig tree has spoken to me of not giving up in the face of seeming barrenness, but to keep trusting Him that the fruitfulness He promised is surely coming, that fruit tree is speaking good things to me this year: the blessings of fruitfulness in Zion.
For 24 years I have weekly summarized ministries letters from the Israeli Messianic Jewish ministry letters. My mission was to make them known to the Church. Like I was before Reuven Doron introduced me to the body of Messiah in Israel, Christians mostly have had no idea of the existence of Jewish followers of Yeshua in Israel. Not only was my mission to make Christians aware of their existence, but in time it became my mission to let Christians know why the body in Israel is significant to Christians worldwide and why we are to help them specifically. It goes far beyond advocating just for the Jewish state; the Israeli believers in Yeshua are significant to the building of the House of Our Lord
Jesus, and Israel's too. Yeshua, Israel’s Messiah King, Deliverer and Savior.

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you." Jeremiah 29:11-12

Arrows from Zion
Summarized from the Weekly Summary of Prayer Requests Israeli Ministries

Avi Tekle, the son-in-law of Eitan Shishkoff, whom Eitan passed the pastoral leadership of the Ohalai Rachamim (Tents of Mercy) congregation, sent a Shavuot/Pentecost message that was perfect in line with what I had written for the cover story above! He spoke of joining in a hand-harvest in a field of wheat to get a deeper connection with the harvest that Shavuot is about. He wrote, “we noticed something striking: weeds had grown up alongside the good hay. It was a vivid, living picture of the parable Yeshua told, reminding us that even in a fruitful harvest, discernment and care are needed. And yet, the harvest is plentiful, and we are honored to be laborers in it.” He went on to thank financial supporters of Tents of Mercy for making it possible for them to “to bring practical help and encouragement to new immigrants and needy families” in their area. Avi wrote,Each family we reach with compassion is another sheaf gathered into the storehouse of the Kingdom. Through your giving, you are not only meeting immediate needs – you are sowing eternal seed.”  From the bottom of our hearts, todah rabah – thank you. You are truly standing with us in the fields, helping us to bring in the harvest, both physically and spiritually.”

DD: Yesterday morning the Spirit spoke to me that God said He would “open the windows of Heaven.” When I looked the Malachi 3:10 verse up, I understood God was calling me make a tithe from response of the special donations appeal that I received to pay off a debt back into the Israeli ministries. It was a blessed response, made even more blessed for the beautiful Israelis ministries who responded giving donations too.
I am sharing this because what God spoke goes beyond a personal instruction to me.
“Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this,” says the LORD of Hosts. “See if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour out for you blessing without measure."
This is no general call to tithe but is specifically
God’s call for Christians to tithe into the storehouses of the Israeli body of Messiah so they would have food – natural and spiritual    they could sow among their people.         Even as Israel is counting the omer  (the sheaves) – in the period between Passover and Pentecost – the sheaves are the spiritual harvest in Israel (“bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves, we will come rejoicing bringing in the sheaves!”)
God is challenging us to tithe into the storehouses of the Israeli ministries who are literally making food from God’s house in Israel available so “all Israel shall be saved.  God is telling Christians to test Him in this and He will open the windows of Heaven to them!

Dov and Olga Bikas who leads the Aviv Ministry to the lowest members of Israeli society really – the drug addicts, sex workers, women escaping domestic abuse – and doing it giving these hopeless human beings a reason for hope to rise again, have a new format in their ministry letters. You can read the whole prayer letter here in  PDF format for Newsletter - May 2025.  As always, they share some of the recent interactions they have with people and as always it brings tears to my eyes to hear about the people they are reaching. They give prayer requests also for their Women’s Shelter, Humanitarian Aid center in Ashkelon, and the Arab Rehab Project they are working to set up. Also videos of two of their Aviv Team members:  From Gangster to Minister — Eduard's Testimony (Askelon Humanitarian)| Vadim Birman Bringing Hope Through Media
Maybe you are like me. I used to have no interest in ministries working among the drug addicts, homeless, sex workers. During missions week I would skip those presentations. But then I came close enough to the problem by seeing that several members of my extended family could easily end up in same dire situation as the people the Aviv Ministry reaches out to. Drug abuse is so widespread. Maybe our loved one or friend can show up to a family get together and not look as out of control as they did last night on the mean streets. Or maybe we can turn a blind eye pretending not to see them slipping away into self-destruction. The Aviv Ministries are people with a heart of love for Yeshua to reach out and save those who are self-destructing. Sowing a seed toward their ministry is planting a seed towards your own struggling loved one. “Test me and see if I will not open the windows of Heaven and pour out for you blessing without measure.”  Go here ! Earlier in May I received this report from the Justers (Dan and Patty, Ben and Lorena)of
Restoration from Zion (Tikkun from Zion). Dan wrote about his 30 year involvement in Towards Jerusalem Council II which is moving toward a significant summit in Jerusalem in Oct 2025 of the 1700 year anniversary of the Council of Nicea. Dan writes, The original vision was to gather the leaders of all large denominations and streams of the Body of the Messiah in Jerusalem, to host a council parallel to the Acts 15 council that embraced Gentiles in the Body without mandating that they become Jews or live a Jewish way of life. The Church of later centuries, largely Gentile, declared that maintaining Jewish life and identity in Yeshua was heresy. The Church had largely embraced replacement theology, that the Church had replaced Israel as God’s elect and ethnic Jewish people were no longer elect. The original vision embraced the importance of official declarations on the continued election of Israel and the importance of the restoration of Messianic Jews as the saved remnant of Israel, as the Jewish members of the Body….To see the completion of God’s work in this age, this ancient rift has to be healed. This reconciliation and resulting unity opens the heavens and will bring new power and revival. … Leaders will be coming from all over the world, every continent.  Last week, our Executive Committee planned this convocation for 400 to 500 people. We see momentum building and a path for more and more senior leaders to embrace this vision…. Imagine the unity of the Church rightly connected to its Jewish roots, to the Jewish people/Israel and rightly in unity with the Messianic Jewish community. This is our hope and quest. We are closer to the goal of the Council than ever before.
Dan notes that it is their personal ministry that has financed much of his involvement in TJCII through all the years of international travel - flights, hotels, communication and so much more. Donations to Restoration from Zion continue to do that as they are coming up this pivotal meeting in Jerusalem. From Out of Zion Ministries, David and Josie Silver’s ministry up in Haifa, in the 5/30 son Stefan Silver wrote in Make it Count about the season of biblical counting that goes on in the 49 days between Passover to Pentecost which is called the “Counting of the Omer.” If you understand that ALL of the biblical holy days are pictures from God about His plan to restore “all Israel” to Himself, then even there days between Pesach and Shavuot are important.  As Stefan reveals, the word “omer” in Hebrew means a sheaf (like “bringing in the sheaves”).  After Passover/Pesach it is 49 days to the time of the harvest.  Stefan writes that it would be “the fiftieth (Pentekoste in Greek) day when the grain harvest would be ready.”  The grain harvest representing the time between Passover and the Lord’s death on the cross until the grain harvest, when, as Stefan writes, “the Holy Spirit descended in Jerusalem ... (and) three thousand Jewish people came to faith in Yeshua and were baptized in the temple pools! Acts 1.
DD: In my understanding, these things also foreshadow the gap be the Yeshua/Jesus paying for our sins as the Passover Lamb, and at long last the spiritual harvest that has begun in Israel since 1948 when God restored the State of Israel as the Promised Jewish homeland. There were 23 Jews in Israel in 1948 at the declaration of Statehood – and since that time it has increased to between 15-20,000 Israeli Jewish believers in Yeshua/Jesus. The increase continues to be released – these are the “sheaves” that the Israeli ministries are bringing in.
Also on 6/6 Josie Silver’s article One in Messiah, “
Last week we heard of what could be small new beginnings. At an event in Jerusalem an Israeli Orthodox Rabbi shared at a global gathering of Christians and Jews. He shared that through the tragedy of the double murder of the two American Messianic Jewish Embassy employees, he felt he wanted to visit the Israeli family that lost their son and to pay respects during their Shiva. Shiva is the time Jewish people sit for a week and mourn their loss of a loved one, with visitors, friends and family, who bring comfort and prayer.  During the course of a conversation at the Shiva, with the brother of the murdered Messianic Embassy employee, Yaron, and hearing about the heart and the work that Yaron did at the Embassy, it came as a first time realization to this Orthodox Rabbi that Jews who believe in Yeshua as the Messiah, are still very Jewish, contrary to what the religious Jewish community believe. And their goal, love, work, dedication, cause and focus for Israel is the same as theirs. In essence he began to see that there shouldn’t be a shunning away or exclusion of Messianic believers from the Faith.  He shared about Jews and Christians that we all share and have a common fate, a blood covenant, and it is dangerous to be on the spectrum if you are on the Jewish side or the Christian side of the spectrum.
Josie had many other great connections to these things about a coming unity as is found in the biblical record. She wrote,“ There are greater things still to happen when Religious Jews and Messianic Jews come into the true identity and unity of being one people, one in the household of God in the same Jewish Messiah, along with those from the nations (the global body of Messiah) that have joined and aligned themselves with Israel, as a one new man.

Reuven Doron, what can I say? His insight in God’s one new man plan has always inspired me. Watch this 12 minute video he made 5/31 called Take Courage. His opening words are, “It’s not going to get easier.” That is the thing we have to realize – even in all the wonderful things that are coming in terms of Israel’s spiritual redemption and the harvest that will likewise unfold in the nations – everything will not be wonderful.
There will be BATTLE as Reuven shares: The scripture Genesis 15: 5-18 is the very first time that the word INHERIT (root word “YARASH” in the Hebrew) appears in the Bible. It shows up more than 200 times in the Scriptures, speaking equally about
the right of INHERITANCE, and also about the act of TAKING POSSESSION and actually acquiring that inheritance. Possessing God’s promises always required unwavering faith, sacrifice, and struggle. This principle is the reality behind the prolonged war Israel has been facing ever since its resurrection as a modern day nation in its ancestral homeland. We are fighting for our inheritance.
The Hebrew nation was given the land of Canaan as their inheritance from their God. Hell knows the meaning of this reality, and so this inheritance is greatly embattled. In addition, those grafted into the commonwealth of Israel through faith in Messiah (those born again by God’s Spirit) are also given an inheritance to possess. These promises, also, must be contended for. Israel, and the Ecclesia Church of Jesus all over the world, are fighting the same fight, and the ONLY QUESTION heaven and hell are focusing on these last days is: “Will the Word of God be fulfilled on earth as it is in heaven.”
….. As God answered Father Abraham long ago, only His sacrifice will secure Israel’s inheritance. The best thing you can do to uphold Israel on her difficult journey back to God is to support the testimony of Jesus and the work of the Good News of Messiah in Israel.

Sally Shiff, my friend at the HaMaayan congregation in Kfar Saba, wrote on the 600th day since the war with Hamas broke by a brutal invasion that killed 1200 people and kidnapped over 250 to hold as bargaining chips against Israel. She has been writing to her list every day since, updating on the daily news of the war, the state of the people at home, in war, held hostage. Sally is an intercessor in her congregation, so she has a spiritual view, not just a news rendition. On the 600th day she wrote about the 6:29 am ceremonies that marked the moment Israel knew they were under attack on that day: “…our nation was invaded by the most ruthless terrorists some call in history. Sixty entry points all at the same time, by land, sea and air they came leaving a devastation that could only be called a pogrom, a holocaust on our small nation. And, 600 days later, it was discovered they did it so peace would not be achieved here in the Middle East. Hamas (Iran) was concerned that Saudi Arabia would recognize Israel and join the Abraham Accords against Iran.” Of the Hamas leader that led the invasion attack, she writes that she doesn’t think he realized that “what he meant for evil, God is using for good…. that day changed the face of our nation. It divided us and united us at the same time. Our soldier generation has once again understood the gravity of defending our nation and will in time be the leaders of tomorrow not forgetting today and all they fought for on behalf of us…. One thing is for sure, miracles of Biblical proportion are happening before our very eyes. Your prayers are working. Please keep it up. I am so honored, humbled to be your “hands, feet and heart” here representing you to a nation that needs Yeshua so much, now more than ever.”
Sally wrote on 5/23By now the world knows that antisemitism is on the rise and now has become deadly. Just like the beginnings of Nazi Germany, what started in the institutions of higher learning quickly moved to murder. It’s the same playbook. But this time, it’s different. Because we know the playbook, have the history, and most importantly prayer warriors like you who know how to love and pray for Israel.  The silver lining about these two victims of terror, one is confirmed coming from a Believing family, and only because of that, I cannot confirm that she is too. If that is the case, we know where they are. Right now, they are face to face with Yeshua.
In WW2, The greatest population of Messianic Jews was in Europe. I cannot confirm, but have heard they were the first to be given over to the nazi's for the concentration camps...by the rabbi's. What Satan meant for evil, God used for good. Just like Corrie ten Boom, believers in the camps to share the gospel to the Jews and others in their last moments.
These two became platforms for the rest of the world (like you) to wake up and see that this is not just Israel. But a demonic darkness that is trying to take over the land. But one person, or in this case two...a couple who were soon to be engaged shed light into a dark world.
This war is NOT about Hamas, or Hezbollah. It’s not about the ballistic missiles that have come for the last few nights and disturbed my sleep. It is the war of light (the light of Yeshua) and darkness.

David’s Tent Avner Boskey rightly notes satan is the WAVE maker in this article on the worldwide wave of Anti-Semitism. | ALSO A generation that did not know Joseph | On June 1st an Egyptian who illegally overstayed his work visa, violently attacked a weekly walking group in Boulder, Colorado Run for Their Lives, "an apolitical global organization with the sole mission of walking peacefully to raise awareness for the 58 hostages still held in captivity by Hamas in Gaza.” He set 8 of the walkers on fire with an improvised flamethrower and also through Molotov cocktails at them. The victims are aged between 52 and 88. This follows the murderous terror attack that killed two young Messianic Jews in Washington, DC less than 2 weeks ago. As Avner rightly notes in this article as well, “Jihadi terror has landed on American shores and has dug in for the long haul. Time to connect the dots.

This VIDEO  from Tikkun Global is from the Latino Conference with English Translation – a three days in Jerusalem of our Latino Alignment Summit 2025 with 30 plus leaders (Portuguese and Spanish Speakers). Asher Intrater is teaching on Alignment, and it is good to note this: Alignment WITH HIM | When Asher wrote the book, Alignment, the intent was not that people would align themselves to a particular ministry or to Tikkun Global. The purpose of the book was for all of us together to align ourselves with God’s eternal plan; the plan God intended from the beginning. God is the architect and engineer who purposefully designed creation to teach us a lesson about the Kingdom of God, to teach us about His unfolding plan…. ultimately, the whole plan of God centers around Yeshua…. Alignment is seeing God’s plan from beginning to end and yielding ourselves to His purposes. WATCH today’s Global Broadcast as Asher shares this important message with the nations.
