Asking Questions

Emmaus Way in Tiberias Donation information

One of the things I love about Arni’s ministry letters is that he is always posing many questions. That is really the essence of the Emmaus Way vision, to make a place for the Presence of the LORD in Israel by consecrating focus on a worship atmosphere without agenda in order to hear what God is speaking. -DD

July 1 | And so it was, in the midst of the height of the action, rather suddenly, the director stood up and said “Cut. That’s a wrap. We are done here.”  As quickly as it began, it was over. The players packed up and went home, leaving those standing by to figure out what exactly had just happened.
Some things were obvious and evident. The veracity of what can be known only second- and third-hand was another story. How much do we trust the motives and integrity of those in power? Families lost loved ones, hundreds were wounded, and thousands are homeless. This is not a totally new experience for us. However, the magnitude of it all and the rate it unfolded is like nothing else we have ever known.
While the cessation of hostilities has silenced the soul-shaking wee-hour sirens, the looming unanswered questions will no doubt keep many awake. The present quiet is not one of shalom. Not at all. For three thousand years, in varying degrees at various times, the ruler of this world has moved on peoples and nations to seek to subjugate or eliminate the Jewish people. According to Scripture, that will not change until Yeshua returns.
The present Iranian regime has never hidden its commitment to Israel’s destruction. Unless that were to change, any cease fire is merely a comma in time. The global stage has been reset and the next act is about to begin. There are a number of different plays running simultaneously and we get to choose which one to tune into.
We personally have come to the conclusion that flipping between the channels to follow all the scenes and dialogue and all of the players is unprofitable and exhausting. We would rather give our attention to the main stage of eternal reality. During the days of war we gathered mornings and evenings beyond our normal twice-weekly schedule. Every time, from the first moments, the atmosphere of heaviness and weariness was dispersed as we were refreshed by the Presence of the Lord.
Following is a recounting of some recent events we think have significance beyond themselves and are worthy of prophetic consideration. On May 1st, catastrophic wildfires broke out in the center of the country, causing the national Independence Day celebrations to be cancelled. May 4th saw a missile from Yemen get through our sophisticated defense system, landing near Ben Gurion Airport and causing the airport to close and flights to be cancelled for weeks. Some two weeks later, two Messianic staff members of the Israeli Embassy in Washington D.C. were shot to death at a reception for young diplomats. Are these three terrible events unrelated or is there a message here?
Our God Who never sleeps is over everything that concerns Israel. Independence Day is a very significant event; stopping all air traffic to Israel is a global upset affecting multitudes; and the murdered Jewish couple were in the inner circle of Israeli-American Messianic Jewish diplomatic life. What do we imagine? What are we to believe? Did God look the other way when the fires were set? Did He lift His Hand to allow the missile through? Did He step aside to let the shooter pass? This murder in particular impressed us as quite intimate in nature. While it opened up amazing discussions among Jews about Messianic believers still being Jewish, it does not overshadow the sense that God is crying out to get our attention.
Three weeks later a twelve-day war began that impacted every soul within Israel’s borders. In response to the hundreds of missiles that were being fired upon Israel, just about every night Homefront Command sent wake-up messages to all our cell phones, alerting us that an attack was coming. Was this twelve-day event number four in a series of Divine stirrings?
The invasion of October 7th was also shockingly intimate. It was personal...face to face…one to one. The ballistic missiles that landed impersonally in the heart of Israel destroying whole neighborhoods was a quantum shift in what impresses us as an unfolding progression. The potential of what could have happened is staggering. While God’s mercy is unmistakable, the fact that He allowed several missiles to get through is fact. He could have stopped them all. The damage, limited and contained as it was, nonetheless amounts to billions of shekels and has directly affected thousands and indirectly millions.
When we declare that He who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps, are we not affirming His purposeful sovereignty over every event of consequence? It’s difficult to fathom what the next level might look like. Where do we go from here? We pray that believing Jews and Gentiles in Israel and the nations would ask this question and wait for an answer.
Throughout the twelve days there were numerous moments when all of Israel were in bomb shelters. Mostly the attacks came in the middle of the night, designed to disrupt our sleep patterns. In the past there have been times that certain areas needed to take shelter. But never has it been that the whole country was so moved at the same time. It was a timeless moment that transcended temporal dynamics. What a prophetic picture of our call to be wholly united and separated unto God! Even as the nation sought temporal shelter, we pray for the day when our people will seek the way into the secret place of the Most High.
Things are happening. God’s spirit is moving. We are encouraged. The events of covid, the claims and clouds surrounding October 7th, and the latest war, have shaken many into a place of wondering and  questioning. All kinds of people are openly confessing they don’t know what to think or what to do, reading Psalms, and speaking about God … perhaps like never before. The ground is being prepared. The personal testimonies of Israeli resilience and faith in the face of tragedy and loss are remarkable. But singing, dancing and reciting Scripture in the midst of devastation can only be a product of God’s Presence. To God be all the glory for anything of value we have accomplished, anything worthy of praise. His eternal covenant has left His Name woven into our very DNA. Whether we recognize Him or not, He is in our midst. The enemy works hard to keep Israel from the knowledge of our Father, but he will not succeed.
There is no end to the opinions, interpretations, conclusions, observations, perceptions, information, evaluations and recounting of who said what to whom and why. Additionally, propaganda and lies abound, like the report that the IDF is brutally killing Gazans coming to receive aid. These reports are reminiscent of the horrendous blood libels that circulated just prior to the Holocaust. It’s hard to fathom that so many are choosing to believe such obvious lies. A spirit of deception has been released and there is no turning back.
By the end of this day, anti-semitism will skyrocket. That which has apparently been latent in many is coming to the surface. The virulence and proliferation of these absurd claims cannot be countered naturally. Concurrently, in a seeming opposite direction, the presently-anticipated expansion of the Abraham Accords could take us into a significant prophetic moment. The talk is of nations and peoples living side by side with Israel with formal diplomatic relations. Will there also be a change in the time-worn ideological positions? Will the Palestinians remove the clauses in their national covenant calling for the destruction of Israel? And if they do, will it be from the heart or just for appearance? We will soon see. But it seems as though we may be approaching the season spoken of in Jeremiah 6:14, “They have also healed the hurt of My people slightly, saying, ‘Peace, peace!’ when there is no peace.” Current events seem to be ushering in a limited season of outer quiet.
We have not been this way before. This seems like a perfect time to enter into a season of solemn assemblies as is spoken of in Joel 1:14 and 2:15. The root Hebrew word translated as “solemn assembly” means “stop.” How applicable to the moment are Joel’s words! The terrible army reaping destruction in the Land is referred to in Joel 2:11 as the Lord’s army.
Beloved, there is no length to which our Father will not go to bring us to Himself and prepare a Bride for Yeshua. As in Habakkuk 1:5, His Hand is in the glove of the enemy. If all we see is that the enemy is doing this and that, our understanding will fall short. His ways are not our ways. “Now therefore says the Lord, ‘Turn to me with all your heart, with fasting weeping and mourning.’” (Joel 2:12)
What will it take to cause us to stop and declare the words of Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20:12?  “For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us: nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”  It seems that as a nation we have not yet come to that point, but we see a small but strong green shoot striving to break through the newly-plowed ground. It needs pure light and clean water: we need help from our brethren in the nations. Beyond man’s religious practices, Greek structures, and humanistic motivations, this breakthrough needs the Presence of the Lord.  If you are at all moved of the Lord to come alongside and help, here are four thoughts to consider:
-How was it that the Presence of God could so fill that Upper Room on Shavuot 2000 years ago? There was an atmosphere into which the Holy Spirit was able to so come. At Yeshua’s ascension, His last words to them were about the coming of the Holy Spirit. They instinctively knew they needed to stop their ministry activities and go to Jerusalem and wait. Does it not stand to reason that if we desire the Spirit to come as it did then, we should do as they did (cf.Acts 1:4,5,8,12-14)?
-A message was on the way to Daniel (chapter 10) concerning Israel’s prophesied release from Babylonian captivity and return to the Land (aliyah?). The angelic messenger was hindered by the prince of Persia. Could it be that the current battle relates to what Daniel experienced then? The breakthrough required the intervention of Michael, who watches over Israel. Following, the prince of Greece would come and Michael alone would stand with the angel against these two ruling principalities (Greece and Persia). We understand the Greek spirit to be the source of the prevailing humanistic mindset of the world. Yeshua said, “…the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.” (Jn.14:30) To the degree we hold dear something of the world … something connected to the kingdom of the prince of the power of the air…to that degree we will be vulnerable…even to deception.
-Zechariah 9:13 tells us that the sons of Zion are positioned to stand against the sons of Greece. These are two opposing systems…world views.  Zion by Hebrew definition is a dry and parched land, basically devoid of natural beauty…as it is written of its chief son Yeshua. Likewise the children of Zion have nothing of themselves to offer but to come before the Lord as living sacrifices. May the children of Zion in the nations arise and take their place alongside the natural olive tree, that the eyes of Israel would be opened to recognize our Savior and Redeemer!
-As we all who know the way gather to worship and seek the Lord, as we choose to corporately shut ourselves in with Him, we are in effect a spiritual expression of Israel’s quest for physical peace and safety. Could it be that our sacrificial offering would touch the heart of the King as Esther’s did, and even serve as intercession that Israel’s veil might be removed? This would essentially not be through one-time events but would be the ongoing result of a foundational shift that would bring forth a new wineskin fit for our God and King. | May the Lord bless you from Zion!

Arrows from Zion
Summarized from the Weekly Summary of Prayer Requests Israeli Ministries

This is a MUST Read from Avner Boskey of
David’s Tent in the Negev: | The epidemic of anti-Semitism has arrived "The world is witnessing the growth of two movements – the first stands with, defends and loves the Jewish people and their homeland; the second is exploding with demonic hatred of Israel the people and Israel the state. Both movements are growing simultaneously. It is crucial for those who have God’s heart for the sons and daughters of Jacob, to be tracking about the reality of the anti-Jewish stream – its patterns, growth, direction and strategic goals – and to be pro-active in dealing with this critical challenge.”
Also The Micaiah Anointing  "....There is a fascinating word – ‘abracadabra.’ This term is based on two Aramaic roots – ‘abra’ (‘I will create’) ‘kadabra’ (‘according to that which I speak’). In other words: “I will speak things into existence.” Politicians are certainly tempted to believe that they have the power to create realities out of thin air, but of course, not all election promises come to pass.”

Following the American attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, there was a quadruple phone call between US President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer. A speedy newly crafted peace agreement between Israel and more Arab countries was discussed as part of the vision of the expansion of the Abraham Accords.” Now What?

Pastor Israel Pochtar of Beit Hallel (House of Praise) congregation in Ashdod, writes, “During the war, we stood with our people—in bomb shelters, in broken homes, in quiet conversations with the lonely and afraid. And we shared something powerful with them: hope. The kind that only comes from the eternal promises of God. This Shabbat, we want to take you deeper into that hope—by sharing a beautiful insight from the Hebrew language. Did you know that the Hebrew words for eternity (Neẓach) and victory (Nitzachon) are not only related—they come from the very same root? In Hebrew, victory isn’t just a moment of triumph—it’s something rooted in eternity. That’s the kind of victory our God gives. (Watch here)

Out of Zion ministries, “Unfortunately, modern-day Iran has the same spirit of hatred toward the Jewish people as Haman did with its radical Ayatollah regime openly calling for Israel’s complete destruction. Even so, in recent times Iran was not always hostile towards Israel. Iran was the second Muslim-majority country to recognize Israel as a sovereign state after Turkey, and until the 1979 Islamic revolution, Iran had excellent diplomatic and economic ties with Iran….. Iran’s Jewish community thrived, serving in government, business, education and maintained vibrant religious life.
Looking to the future, what can we expect?.... In Jeremiah 49:34–39, the Lord speaks of Elam—ancient Iran. He foretells Elam’s judgment: the breaking of its bow (its military strength), scattering its people, and bringing disaster upon them. But the story didn’t end there. God promised to “set His throne in Elam” and to restore them “in the last days.” While we do not know how events will develop in the near future, we do know that God is restoring and watching over Israel in preparation for his second coming.
We know that he desires none to perish, not Israelis and not Iranians. God is moving in Iran in a strong way, and he is moving in Israel also, drawing people unto himself.

Stefan Silver and his wife Keren are part of the pastorate of Kerem-El, a daughter congregation to the Carmel congregation. While Stefan has been serving Reserve duty since the Gaza war began, his fellow pastor Yonatan Arnold bore the congregational affairs mostly alone, leading to burnout. For this reason Yonatan will step away from the position on the last day of 2025. Stefan & Keren will remain but they and the leadership are seeking God for a leader to come alongside. They write, “….we believe that God is at work and that He has a good plan for each of us. We believe that God founded this community and therefore it is completely in His hands and He will lead us forward. … Please stand with us in prayer for this crucial matter.
A senior woman in the congregation, Hanna started a bi-weekly Bible study for women. The study came to a halt when the Gaza war broke out. Hanna’s son-in-law was “tragically killed in battle, leaving her daughter widowed with five children. A few months ago Hanna resumed the study, using a Precepts teaching in Hebrew on the Feasts of the Lord. The study is again held every two weeks and an average of 15 women attend, including several mothers and daughters. The study, that also includes a meal and a time of prayers, is greatly loved and blessed by all the women.”
The congregation dedicated a baby girl during Pentecost, “a time of presenting the firstfruits to the Lord.… This precious family run a goat dairy farm, and sell top quality cheeses. Their vision is to develop the farm into a “plant and pick” berry field, where guests can meet the animals, pick fruit and enjoy nature. They ask us to join them in this vision, for funding and assistance to accomplish it.”

Youval and Valerie Yanay write that the Youth Camp Connexion to France for the Revive Israel team had to be cancelled because of the ballistic missiles Iran was firing at Israel, but the leaders have been helping their youth process the disappointment by helping them see “this moment not as a loss, but as a redirection under the Father’s loving guidance.” It is a good lesson to mature into by trusting God, “has protected us from dangers we couldn’t see…. Please keep Raphael, Liel, and their family in your prayers as they remain overseas, waiting to return safely to Israel.”
Over the past two weeks, our community has continued to gather, worship, and tend to the land. The chickens still need feeding. The goats still need care. The fields still await sowing. Creation does not stop, and neither does the call to walk in step with the Spirit. These daily acts have helped anchor us in God’s peace and protection. We’ve opened our hearts and our homes for prayer and worship gatherings, providing a safe space not only for our own community but also for others who remained in the moshav. We have rested in His presence, even as missiles rained down. The Friday market turned into an unexpected place of refuge with people sitting over coffee and crepes, buying fresh vegetables, and finding joy amid the sorrow. It reminded us that the Kingdom is always near. Donation website page

Leon Mazin of the Return to Zion congregation in Haifa sends “heartfelt gratitude for your prayers during this challenging time. Your support and encouragement have made a significant difference, and we deeply appreciate your faithfulness.”… Despite the trauma we are enduring—families have lost loved ones—there is hope. We are reminded to look to God for healing and comfort, not only for ourselves as believers but also for the broader community, as Israel grapples with deep emotional scars. We are committed to praying for everyone impacted by this crisis, and we ask you to join us in this prayer.  In our congregation, we have maintained communication and support through Zoom prayer meetings, even as we temporarily paused other activities to protect our community from additional trauma. Thankfully, our congregants called to serve in the army have returned home safely.
…. Please continue to pray for our three congregations in Haifa, Nazareth, and Kiryat Haim, that we may be filled with the Holy Spirit and find courage in this storm. Let us also pray for the families who have experienced loss, as their pain is profound and intense. Thank you again for your unwavering prayers and support.

Evan Thomas of the Netanya Beit Asaph congregation also checks in after returning from New Zealan, then heading out to Dubai, over to Singapore back to Israel to once again travel to Holland. Each of the travels called on Evan bearing a similar mission as he described his task in Holland: “to build relationships between Beit Asaph and the Believing communities in Holland, to bring a ‘Kingdom message’ to help Believers already ‘torn’ and confused regarding their support for Israel and finally, to seek financial support for the Beit Asaph project. Mission accomplished in all three of these goals!”
As for the new congregation, they write: “The internal construction of the new community outreach center is progressing well and should be completed by the end of July. Evan and Lev, his co-pastor, have begun discussions and planning for reinstituting programs that have been on hold for the past three years while we have been without a facility. There is much to be done in preparation: building teams, expanding leadership and adjusting times and frequency of services to suit our diverse community. Please keep this before the Lord in prayer!

We still have a distance to go before gathering all the finances to meet our final obligations next January. There are days when we feel the stress rising to overwhelm us (Evan particularly).Thank you for your prayers for all these areas. We hope and desire to see the center ‘in full swing.’ Words cannot adequately express how grateful we are for all your prayers, your words of encouragement and your faithful support as we labor on in ‘God’s vineyard’ here in the Sharon Valley, Central Israel!  Donation information on website

My friend Sally Shiff at HaMayaan congregation writes so poignantly as she keeps her subscribers daily informed of how Israelis are faring in the tumultuous times they have been facing as a nation. It makes it difficult to edit down what she writes, for example she sent this today on July 4th: “I woke up with the words of America the Beautiful playing in my head, and I was grateful to be both an American and Israeli. Grateful for all the blessings God has given me, and deeply grateful for you, my dear friends. I am grateful for the relationship that America has with Israel, especially now.” Then she quoted from Alexis de Tocqueville about his own search for “the greatness and genius of America…. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power.  America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, she will cease to be great.
We have a lot to work on there but Sally was full of thankful expressions for the help the President gave in destroying Iran’s ability to do great harm to Israel and especially for all those who have been praying along with her and the other Israeli ministries on Israel’s behalf. She writes, “Thank you for your prayers these 20 months (and for some of you a lot longer!)… , I wanted to take this time, thank God for my birthplace; America, and my new home, Israel.  And to you, my dear friends.”
Only short excerpts from other reports: As the Sons of Issachar, you need to be wise in your prayers. To be wise is to have the actual news of what is happening here, not what the news agencies want to share with you. So with that in mind, pay attention what is happening in Syria:

…. how is the war affecting those that are returning and experiencing the effects of October 7, 2023 over and over again???  The Whole House Shakes": Southern Israelis Return Home Amid Gaza Bombardments |  It is difficult if not impossible for the rest of the world to imagine living under these conditions, and without the help of the peace of Yeshua, our nation will never know rest and the peace that surpasses understanding.  Pray for the Body of Yeshua here to be your hands and feet to touch those who do not know them.
7/1/25  Wow, 20 months – It’s the longest war in Israel's current history. The 1948 war was half that: 10 months. There have been so many changes since October 7, 2023. The map of the Middle East is still changing geopolitically daily; it's hard to keep up…. For the past many years it has been rumored that the greatest revival taking place in the Middle East is in Iran! (I can't verify that). If that is the case, then those believers in Iran  could be the very ones who have prayed this geopolitical shift into being. Coupled with your prayers mountains are moving! …. I do feel we are at a critical juncture at this moment. Time to really pray for His kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven.

At the Kfar Saba
HaMaayan  congregation led by Tony & Orna Sperandeo, “We are so grateful for your kind emails of concern on our behalf....our congregation is comprised of native Israelis as well as immigrants of all ages from 20 different nations. Some have been here for decades, and our newest immigrant came from France just 45 days ago. For all of us, this war is unlike any war we have had since 1948, the War of Independence. Many of our members do not have a bomb shelter they can readily access in 90 seconds.… Consequently, we have opened our building and prepared our shelters that they can use for their safety. .… Consequently, we have opened our building and prepared our shelters that they can use for their safety…. As of this writing, over 20,000 homes have been destroyed. We have, via our distribution center donated clothes and toys to the families who are left with nothing. Later this week, we will visit and hand out food coupons.
We know our greatest weapon is prayer. So, every night, we meet together via zoom to pray and encourage one another. Our first prayer is always for the 53 hostages that are still held in Gaza, in critical conditions, awaiting their return home. Now, more than ever, our people are staring at eternity. Many are interested in knowing more about God, and those who we have shared with about Yeshua, our Savior, are asking relevant questions. Pray that our nation will receive a revelation of the Good News of Yeshua HaMashiach!

Jennifer Guetta of Plant Hope Israel writes happily that her husband finally made it home on an El Al rescue flight. “. It is intense living in Israel during these times. But our faith is strengthened, and we know that God is with us. We are happy with a little rest for our bodies and praying for real peace to come.
