Julie Roys: A Little Background

On her own website, Roy's Report, Julie Roys reveal that in 2018 Julie published a series of articles condemning her employer Moody Bible Institute of "exposing corruption and mission drift at the Moody Bible Institute. This led to the exit of three top officers at Moody. It also ended Julie’s relationship with Moody and changed the focus of Julie’s website—from a blog offering cultural commentary to an independent Christian media outlet exposing corruption, abuse, and what’s been termed the “evangelical industrial complex.”
Next up, between "2018—2019, Julie wrote dozens of stories, revealing bullying, deceit, and financial abuse by celebrity preacher James MacDonald and Harvest Bible Chapel. In the course of her reporting, Harvest fired MacDonald and the entire board of elders at the church resigned."
What are the long term results of this?
"The protracted dispute between Pastor James MacDonald and Harvest Bible Chapel (HBC) recently concluded through arbitration. Now the Chicago-area megachurch is sharing details of the settlement and has apologized to its former pastor, who was fired in February 2019.
"MacDonald also is speaking out for the first time about the contentious, high-profile split with the congregation he led for 30 years. MacDonald, who became THE CHURCH'S FIRST PASTOR IN 1988, WILL RECEIVE $1.45 MILLION, PLUS ALL ASSETS OF THE "WALK IN THE WORD" broadcast ministry, some property, and “deferred compensation” of an undisclosed amount.
JULIE ROYS WAS WRONG STIRRING UP TROUBLE FOR PASTOR JAMES MACDONALD & HARVEST BIBLE CHAPEL.
Roy's Report badly screwed up! And who suffered? A pastor and the church he led for 30 years:
"The former HBC senior pastor also will receive a $250,000 cash reimbursement related to a previous home sale. A bank that previously had foreclosed on MacDonald’s estate in Elgin, Illinois, has withdrawn that lawsuit."
"....In their statement, HBC elders .....". “We apologize to you, our church family, to the broader church, and to James MacDonald for not always acting in a loving manner in our communications about him,” they write. “The Scriptures are clear in their instruction to us to ‘live at peace with all men, as far is it depends on you’ (Romans 12:18). We certainly have not done so perfectly. Sometimes we have spoken hastily, and at times our tone was unloving.”
"Now that the legal issues are resolved and everyone at HBC has been “released…from future litigation over arbitration matters,” the elders say their “focus and full attention are on the [church’s] future.”
In recent days I have seen reports that Perry Stone, Bishop T.D, Jakes and DayStar are filing defamation lawsuits. I don't believe any of them are filing against Julie Roys, who since Roys Report blew up in 2023, have published accusations against a slew of Christian leaders and ministries. . . often going strictly on the accustions, without journalistic due diligence.
What do I think about an online publication that pushes abuse agenda for women? Not much. I have encountered gender and sexual abuse situations in my life. As a Christian, I know God is not good with bearing false witness or making your life's work out of urging great division across the Body of Christ. Justice must be pursued, not a 1-sided condemnation of ministers hinged on uninvestigated accusations.
